Envirocare employs the Holistic Approach with a focus on addressing the linkages between poverty, gender and human rights. In the development of interventions and initiatives takes into account the different role of women and men in livelihood dynamics with gender considerations prioritized to ensure equitable benefit-sharing. Human right issues such as how people participate in decision making that influences their livelihood and their environment are also a central focus with deliberate efforts are continually made to ensure women participation. Other key components of the Holistic approach include vulnerability analysis that aims at identifying social economic factors that render a community vulnerable to specific problems. The holistic approach also recognizes that given the multi-dimensional nature of poverty and its strong links with social injustice and environmental degradation, environmental concerns cannot be successfully resolved without analyzing and addressing these links. Thus Envirocare through the Holistic approach utilizes a poverty alleviation focus in order to guarantee that project interventions incorporate pro-poor components.
